Recycling centres re-opening plans put on hold

11/05/2020 @ 10:45

Powys County Council has updated residents this morning that any plans to open household recycling centres or libraries are on hold.

Last week, the Welsh Government told councils to start planning for the reopening of some services and, where possible, to put a timeline in place.

But this morning Powys said it is still too soon and they won’t consider any change until they feel it is safe to do so, despite privately owned gardening centres reopening this week.

Corporate Director for Economy and Environment, Nigel Brinn, said: “We need to be absolutely certain that our libraries and Household Waste Recycling Centres are safe for both customers and staff before we re-open them, that process cannot be rushed so please do not expect to see your local service open quickly.

“Further information about the re-introduction of any form of service delivery will be announced as soon as we have accurate information.

“In the meantime, our regular waste and recycling collections will continue as they have done throughout the outbreak and all books out on loan continue to be automatically renewed and any fines are waived, so please just keep your books at home for now.”

The library e-resources continue to be available, and access to Ancestry.com for library members using home computers has also been extended to May 31.

If you need any help with setting up accounts and borrowing e-resources, contact the library service on library@powys.gov.uk.

If you haven’t used the library before, you can join online at here
