Reports are coming in of a dramatic manhunt in the Flash/High School area of Welshpool.
An eye witness reported: “A Mercedes car has just swerved into the school car park and three men ran out. There is a police helicopter in the sky and officers everywhere, some with dogs.”
And it appears the manhunt is connected to a robbery at Barclays Bank Machynlleth when a quantity of money was snatched at lunch time.
Police are currently searching for three men – one black and two white – in connection with the incident.
“The theft happened at Barclays Bank in Heol Pentrerhedyn, Machynlleth,” said Detective Chief Inspector Shane Williams. "We know from witnesses that those responsible made off in a black BMW registration GY06 PHA.
“This vehicle made off over the Aberdovey Bridge and was located soon after by police in the village of Llanwrin.
“It’s believed these individuals then made off in a white Mercedes registration BJ59 SVF. This vehicle has been abandoned near the Flash Leisure Centre in Welshpool. Two white males and one black male were seen running away carrying lounge suits, and we believe they have been staying in the area, and could still be in Welshpool.
“We’re keen to hear from any local hotels or Bed and Breakfasts who may have had guests matching this description register to stay last night or today, and from anyone who has seen individuals matching this description to please contact us on 101.
“As far as the operation is concerned to find these individuals, Dyfed Powys Police is using all the resources we have available, and we’re working closely with our neighbouring force in North Wales.”
