The Office for National Statistics has confirmed that, sadly, there have been eight more deaths connected to Covid-19 in the latest seven-day period.
There has been confusion over the official statistics being released, and MyWelshpool has stopped carrying the Public Health Wales daily updates as a result, but the most accurate picture, we are advised, are the weekly statistics being released by the ONS.
It shows this morning that in the week ending May 15, a total of 84 people in Powys had died with Covid-19 mentioned on their death certificates. We are also told that some of these people did not die OF Covid-19, but were displaying the symptoms at their time of death. Some may not have been tested.
Today Public Health Wales said that only two more people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, taking their total to just 272 since the first was reported on March 11. A total of 1,645 tests have been carried out, but the statistics’ credibility are questioned when they mention that just 13 Powys deaths have occurred, 71 fewer than the ONS count.
NOTE: Last week it was reported by the ONS that 75 people had died, but that was later revised up to 76.
