Eira saves the day

The quick thinking of a four-year-old Welshpool youngster helped prevent a serious house fire.

Little Eira Andrew had listened intently when the Park Lane Day Nursery youngsters visited Welshpool Fire Station and knew just what to do when she spotted a fire.

With Mum Sarah Andrew out at work Eira was at home with her Nain when she spotted a fire outside the house and quickly raised the alarm.

She called on her Nain to ring 999 when seeing a fence on fire and then followed the advice she had been given about moving to a safe distance until the fire service had the blaze under control.

Eira's Mum, Sarah said she was grateful to the staff at Park Lane Day Nursery for teaching her about the fire service and was amazed at how much she had remembered from the topic 'People who help us'.

“We are so fortunate to have the local fire station on our doorstep and they are always so good with the children when we visit,” said Nursery owner Julia Jones.
