Local police are working closely with organisers of the Montgomeryshire Young Farmers Club (YFC) Rally to ensure the massive event passes safely.

The YFC Rally takes place at Bronymaen, Meifod all day before a barn dance in the evening which is expected to attract more than 1,200 revellers from 9pm.

Officers from across Powys will be on duty as police run an operation from both outside and inside the venue to clamp down on potential trouble or underage drinking.

Sergeant Darren Brown of Welshpool Police said: “We will be working with organisers to ensure public safety and provide high-visibility policing, which will significantly address public confidence. Historically, the Rally is well attended and organised very professionally.”

Under 16’s will not be allowed into the dance and photographic proof of age will be requested on entry. Organisers have agreed that only driving licences, passports and proof of age cards bearing the PASS hologram will be accepted. Wrist bands will be issued with a different colour being utilised for over-18s and under-18s.

Dyfed-Powys Police said they will also be undertaking proactive breathalyzer patrols during the day and after the event.

“Violence and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and if necessary arrests will be made to ensure that the majority of people who are responsible can enjoy themselves in safety,” said Sgt Brown.

The YFC Rally is one of the area’s biggest days of the year and ths year the Barn Dance will feature Radio One DJ Greg James.
