Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday 23^rd May 2011.

A good entry of 93 OTM’s forward, sold to a very good average of 124ppkg for the cows and bulls,139ppkg for the under 48month old heifers and 107ppkg for the under 48month old steers. GJ & DM Breeze Red House sold a British Blue cow weighing 873kg to a top market price of £1204.74. A Charolais cow weighing 860kg from J A Williams Llechwedd Dyrys achieved £1204.00. T & A & R Tudor Llysun sold a Simmental cow to £1159.26. A Limousin Bull from T P Jerman Church Farm achieved £1531.80. The Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 was awarded to GJ & DM Breeze Red House for the highest price older cow sold on the day.  

  

An entry of 21 fat cattle sold to average 165ppkg for the steers and 175ppkg for the heifers. J M Rowlands Dolwen sold two fat heifers to a top price of 198ppkg which was bought by Glyn Morris for M J Britwistle & Co and 194ppkg and was paid by Rikki Lloyd of Welshpool. R & J Bowker Rhysnant Farm sold a Limousin heifer to 191ppkg. Francis & Partners Penllwyn presented two heifers to 180ppkg and 176ppkg. The Briarwood Products Ltd price of £25 goes to J M Rowlands Dolwen for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.

Mediums (1522) to 273ppkg from J E BEnnet Goppas Farm. Others to 273ppkg from D P Casewell Tanrhiw. Average of 259ppkg.

Heavy’s (21) to 249ppkg from H G Ellis & Co Tynywern. Others to 239ppkg from D P Casewell Tanrhiw. Average of 242ppkg.  

Over Weights (2) 202ppkg from A H Morgan Penybryn. Average of 200ppkg.

An entry of 869 Prime Hoggets, selling to an average of 209ppkg.

Standards (88) to 228ppkg from D T Owen Tynddol. Others to 217ppkg from R E Astley Rhosgomorog. Average of 204ppkg.  

Mediums (325) to 218ppkg from G Ratcliffe Whixall Farm. Others to 215ppkg from P Andrew Llanoddion. Average of 207ppkg. 

Heavies (100) to 225ppkg from J A Wood & Sons Kinnerton Farm. Others to 217ppkg from G Ratcliffe Whixall Farm. Average of 203ppkg.

Over Weights (48) to 220ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Others to 208ppkg from D Williams Penyffordd. Average of 188ppkg.

 

An entry of 1963 cull sheep presented for sale, saw ewes averaging £71.14 per head and cull rams £96.29 per head. D T A Williams Upper Bolbro presented cull ewes to a top price of £116 per head. W E G Evans Llwynycrwyth sold ewes to £111 per head. J Meredith Lodge Farm sold cull rams to a top market price of £136 per head.

  

A large entry with several entries met a very sharp trade throughout with most lots £10 to £15 per head up on last week. Ewes and lambs at foot sold to £176 fro ewes with twins from TM & ME Morgan Neuaddwen Llanerfyl who also sold to £170.

A much sharper trade on the Hoggs and Lambs with a top price of £204 for singles from I C Goodwin Lower Esgair and also to £200 from the same home. Hoggs and singles from F Bailey Pensarn Ystrad Meurig sold up to £198 and with twins from T M Davies Wynnstay Farm Llanbrynmair to £196.

A good entry of 72 Cows and Calves met with a very good trade especially for the top quality outfits forward. A top price of £2220 was paid for a second calf Belgian Blue cow with her Belgian Blue Bull calf presented by I & J Evans LLwyn hywel Farm Llanilar who also realised £1600 for a Blegian Blue cow with a Bull Calf. D P Evans Moelygarth sold two Limousin heifers with heifer calves for £1800 and £1780. Messers Price and Price Cwmearl sold Limousin heifers with three quarter bred calves for up to £1720. A W Thomas Castle Pren Llandrindod Wells achieved £1660 and £1570 for two Belgian Blue heifers with Bull calves. GM & DA Hughes & Son Lower Halton Farm Chirk presented a Limousin heifer with a heifer calf sold for £1640. J2 Farming from Hisland Oswestry presented a Belgian Blue heifer with a Limousinx heifer calf selling for £1500. A breakdown of the prices achieved where as follows: Over £2000, 1 lot, £1800 - £2000 1 lot, £1600 - £1800 5 lots, £1400 - £1600 10 lots, £1200 - £1400 20lots, £1000 - £1200 34 lots, £900 - £1000 1 lot.

 

A catalogue entry of 10 cows and calves sold to a top price of £1750 on two occasions from D A & O Williams Penlan Forden. Messers Williams also sold three other heifers to achieve £1720, £1480 and £1280. A P Jones Gwerniago Pennal sold two 1^st calvers to £1740 and £1260. PR & CW Benbow New House Forden also sold a 1^st Calver to £1740. Next Sale of Dairy cows will take place on Monday 6^th June (Entries invited by Monday 30^th May).
