Too much charity causing problems

30/07/2020 @ 07:28

Welshpool’s charity shops have always been well supported, but there are concerns that too much charity given in the wrong way is becoming a nuisance.

This picture, taken by MyWelshpool contributor Gary Williams, shows a plea left by one resident living opposite the Sue Ryder shop after donations continued to be dropped off despite the shop being closed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Intentions are good but please wait until the shops are open,” said Gary, who observed that the problem is usually worse on a Sunday afternoon at several charity shop doorways in the town, despite requests from the shops themselves to donate correctly.

The plea that has been left reads: “Please don’t dump your unwanted items outside the shop, you can see it’s closed! It just creates a mess and is an eyesore for the town.”

The resident goes on to say that they will happily name and shame if the problem continues.

Several years ago, we covered a story about people stealing items from bags that had been left overnight in charity shop doorways.
