Work starts on roundabout to serve new primary school

05/08/2020 @ 09:20

Work has started on a new Salop Road roundabout to serve the Welshpool Church in Wales Primary School, with some disruption expected for motorists.

With work now well underway on the new school site on the former High School playing fields, contractors have started preparation work for the new roundabout.

It is expected there will be periods when the North-bound junction from Salop Road onto Welshpool Bypass will have to be closed for the site plant-movement, but the contractors will keep the Trunk Road open during the school holiday period to avoid traffic delays.

The contractors will attempt to keep the junction open for the West-bound traffic wishing to enter the town via Salop Road. Any proposed road-closures will be clearly signed in the town and at the Gallowstree, High School and Flash Leisure Centre entrance.

The access to Gungrog Farm Lane and the Gallowstree development site will remain open to traffic throughout the project, though temporary traffic lights are likely to cause some traffic delays.

The school development has twice been delayed, firstly by the collapse of building firm Dawnus and more recently by the Covid-19 pandemic. Pave-Aways were awarded the contract to complete the project.

The roundabout build contract has been awarded to Coyle Surfacing of Builth Wells .
