Residents living close to one of our favourite beauty spots have been left with a massive clean-up operation in the aftermath of the busiest weekend of the year.
Depressing photographs of widespread littering have been posted on social media after thousands of people visited the waterfall near Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant.
Police were also required to manage the large crowds at Lake Vyrnwy who put out their own appeal around Sunday lunch time for visitors to stay away due to being crowded.
It has prompted Llanfyllin Town Council to highlight the issue and appeal for the day-trippers to take their own rubbish home with them.
“Scenes up at Llanrhaedr Waterfall have been incredibly shocking,” the council said in an online statement.
“Rubbish left by day trippers has been so overwhelming for local residents who use that road for their livelihoods.
“The rubbish has been terrible and locals are working hard to clean up the mess left behind by these inconsiderate people who are not taking their own rubbish with them when they leave.
“If you are intending visiting some of our lovely beauty spots locally please take a packed lunch but take your rubbish home with you. These are areas of outstanding beauty with environmental issues attached and leaving this rubbish affects that.
“Also remember a lot of places are overrun with traffic so please drive carefully and if the car parks are full do not park in areas that might block other road users or field entrances.”
With the Government putting people off traveling abroad this summer to encourage staycations, there are fears that the problems will only intensify if the fine weather continues.
