Emergency meeting over beauty spot chaos

11/08/2020 @ 09:57

Residents are set to meet with council officials this Friday to discuss the issues caused by thousands of tourists flooding into one of our favourite local beauty spots.

Pistyll Rhaeadr has become more popular in recent years after football star, David Beckham, filmed a Biotherm Homme commercial there in 2017 (bottom right), but the weekend scenes pictured at the waterfall, four miles out of Llanrhaeadr, were shocking.

The narrow lane from the village to the stunning location was gridlocked, leaving residents along the route trapped in their houses.

It has also been reported that the café at the foot of the waterfall also closed its doors due to the crowds.

Yesterday, we also highlighted the litter left behind by day trippers to beauty spots like the waterfall and Lake Vyrnwy, another location featured in the Beckham advert.

Residents are now hoping that a solution can be found with the warm weather and Government message to ‘staycation’ expected to draw thousands of visitors in the coming weeks.

Beckham landed in Llanrhaeadr in 2017 by helicopter to film the commercial and called the waterfall “ridiculously beautiful” on his Instagram account that has 50 million followers.

At the time it was described by Marketing experts as publicity that ‘money just can’t buy’.
