Global environmental movement, Extinction Rebellion, are planning a non-disruptive socially-distanced protest in Welshpool Town Centre on Bank Holiday Monday.
The group’s Welshpool & Newtown arm have informed local authorities that they will be present on the High Street from 10am-noon.
Last night a representative told us: “The premise is that activists will stand silently in a non-disruptive socially distanced formation, holding placards relating to the climate and ecological emergency. Plans are for the protest to move to Newtown later in the day.”
The spokesperson also said that “there’s always a need for more rebels” and if anyone would like to support they should message the group via their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/379826645954102/).
According to Wikipedia, Extinction Rebellion (abbreviated as XR) was established in May 2018 with the stated aim of using non-violent civil disobedience to compel government action to avoid tipping points in the climate system, biodiversity loss, and the risk of social and ecological collapse.
