Eat Out to Help Out served up 43,000 Montgomeryshire meals

The scheme that was introduced by the UK Government to provide a shot in the arm for the hospitality industry through August served over 43,000 meals in Montgomeryshire, it has been revealed.

Eat Out to Help Out Scheme offered 50% off food and soft drinks (up to £10 per head) on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the month as the industry battled back from being decimated by the Covid-19 enforced lockdown.

And it seems to have worked, with thousands flocking to the local eateries and collectively saving up to £250,000 in Montgomeryshire alone, a figure which the Government will cover.

The numbers have brought a smile to the face of local MP, Craig Williams, who has urged people to continue their support for their local restaurants and cafes.

“Thank you to all the individuals who supported local restaurants and businesses after what has been a very difficult time for many,” he said. “As the scheme comes to an end, it is vital that we continue to support local restaurants and businesses across Montgomeryshire.

“The scheme has also proved hugely successful across the UK with over 100 million meals being claimed for under the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme which has helped protect hundreds of thousands of jobs in the hospitality sector.

“The scheme was a part of the UK Government’s Plan for Jobs and I continue to work with the Government to ensure we protect, support and create jobs to ensure we come back stronger as a nation.”

Encouraged by the success, several businesses have continued to offer discounts themselves throughout September.
