Sharp weekend rise in Covid cases

07/09/2020 @ 02:42

Powys has suffered a sharp increase in positive Covid-19 cases over the past three days, with 20 recorded since Friday taking the total to 403.

It is not clear, however, if the rise is connected to the mobile testing unit that was dispatched to Welshpool over the same period following an increase in town cases last week.

The new cases represent a 6% increase in the Powys total, with the first was recorded back on March 11. A total of 11,636 tests have been carried out since February.

In its daily briefing notes published alongside this afternoon’s figures at 2pm, Public Health Wales has only highlighted the Covid-19 hot spots of Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taff, with no mentions of Powys or Welshpool.

However, we can expect the local figures in regards to the weekend mobile testing operation either later today or tomorrow.
