Delay to Guilsfield school project

Plans for a new purpose-built early years learning facility at Guilsfield Primary School have been delayed by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Powys County Council has confirmed.

The new 3+ setting was due to be built next to the tennis courts (pictured) this half term, and is needed to cope with the growing demand placed on the current facility based at the Community Centre.

But the inactivity has raised local concern that the project may have slipped through the cracks following the recent announcement of the massive £170 million education transformation project.

But that is not the case, according to Powys, who said the project will be back on track as soon as possible.

“The project has been delayed because of Covid-19 but it will go out to tender in the next couple of weeks,” a spokesperson confirmed.

The massive transformation project announced by Powys will lead to ‘cluster’ primary schools being created, but it means the closure of many small village schools over the next decade.
