Popular Welshpool Mayor, Councillor Estelle Bleivas (right) has been re-elected for a second term.
Cllr Bleivas has been an energetic civic head over the past year and it was revealed prior to her re-election that she recorded a 100 per cent attendance record for meetings during her year in office.
Out of 69 possible meetings she was expected to attend, Cllr Bleivas attended every single one along with Cllr Alan Crowe. In fact, the attendance register for all councillors makes impressive reading from the last 12 months.
“The town can be very proud of their councillors for their hard work over the past year,” said Town Clerk Robert Robinson.
Meanwhile, the Mayor’s Parade & Community Awards take place this Sunday.
Led by the Newtown Minstrels Marching Band, the parade will move off from Park Lane and go down Jehu Road, along Brook Street to St Mary’s Church for an 11.00am service.
The return journey back to the Town Hall will proceed to Mill Lane and go through the new road in the car park (past the Tourist Info Centre) before turning left into Church Street and right into Broad Street for a 12.20pm reception.
There will be light refreshments before Mayor Bleivas present this year’s Community Awards.
