Welshpool’s Covid total reaches 100

05/11/2020 @ 04:12

Welshpool has reached the unwelcome landmark of recording 100 Covid-19 cases since the outbreak began here on March 11, but the area is still recording relatively low numbers of cases.

Public Health Wales confirmed today that the 100th positive test has been returned in the town almost eight months since the first, with eight cases recorded in the latest rolling seven-day period from October 27-November 2.

But, since the start of Lockdown 2, the local numbers have remained consistently low, and last week's outbreak in Newtown appears to be easing, according to the latest statistics released today.

While Welshpool ranks in the sixth highest group from 10 for incidence rates in Wales, the rest of the local areas are classed in the lowest two incidence groups.

The number of Powys deaths reported by the Office for National Statistics remains at 96.

The advice from the health experts remains unchanged as we head into the final days of the firebreak, which ends on Monday.
