It was two weeks ago today that Welshpool was gripped by a thrilling manhunt for three bank robbers (pictured), and police have again appealed for information into the third remaining man on the run.
Two men in their 20s have already been arrested and charged with the snatch raid on Barclays Bank in Machynlleth, but one white man in his 20s has continued to evade a cross-border manhunt.
Rumours piled onto the mywelshpool newsdesk in the days since the botched robbery ended with a chase across fields in the Rhallt area after the men abandoned their car in the Flash.
These have included anything from the getaway car “sounding like it was about to break down as it sped through town” to another from a credible source who believed at least one of the men was on day release from prison on the day of the crime. None of these have been verified by police who today issued a fresh appeal.
Chief Inspector Martin Tavener said: "Efforts to trace the third person involved are continuing, and if anyone has information which might help us, can they please contact police on 101."
Here Mywelshpool, who joined police in the dramatic search, reminds you of what happened two weeks ago today. If it jogs your memory, call the police.
Around 11.45am, three men grab a consignment of money (about £13,000) from a security guard in the entrance of Barclays Bank in Machynlleth. They made off in a BMW but switched to a white Mercedes and the massive police hunt begins.
An officer answering the call passes the suspected car and turns to give chase. The high speed chase ends in the car park of the Flash Leisure Centre when high school children watched in horror as the car sped in and the three men ran off towards Gungrog Hill.
The police helicopter is scrambled along with dog support from North Wales and West Midlands as the pursuit heads towards the Rhallt countryside.
A local farmer, assisting the 30-strong police team, stumbles across the three men hiding under a bush after seeing suspicious plastic bags. Police give chase and a dog handler nabs the first fugitive at around 4pm. The other two escape.
Approximately 24 hours later a second man is apprehended during a joint Dyfed-Powys and West Midlands Police operation but a third remains at large. Both men have been charged with committing a robbery with others.
