Welshpool Town Council said it will work with the police to track down the thieves who have stolen some of the equipment from the closed skate park.
The unpopular decision was made to close the park this summer following an inspection report that deemed the facility unsafe.
An outcry and a petition followed from the public, but the town council said it was already working with stakeholders to look at providing an alternative new park.
Work to dismantle it began yesterday, but the council has discovered that a lot of the equipment has already been stolen.
Town Clerk, Anne Wilson, said: “We are hoping that CCTV in the area may have caught the culprits as this is theft and we have reported it to the police with a view to prosecution.
“We will let the police know the details of the people who have already asked the Town Council if they can purchase any of it off us, and then their associates.
“The skateboard park failed its safety inspection and a new one is being looked into.”
Ms Wilson said that anyone with information about the missing equipment should contact the town council on 01938 553142.
