Welshpool town centre loses another shop

16/12/2020 @ 01:20

Welshpool town centre has been delivered another retail blow, with Olivers calling it a day after 19 years of trading.

The shop made the announcement this morning and becomes the latest store to call time on the town, following national brands Edinburgh Woollen Mill and WH Smith, as well as long standing ladies clothes shop, Janeva, who have also said they will call it a day in 2021. Constructiv Clothing and the newsagents on The Cross have also closed.

“We are sadly closing down in March 2021 due to myself retiring,” Les Oliver announced this morning.

“The pandemic has made my mind up and I think it’s the best time to retire at age 70. Newtown shop will remain open.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all our loyal customers for their support over the last 19 years.”

It will leave another mighty hole for the town centre to fill, with the former Nat West, Pinewood, Langford’s and Signatures already long standing eye sores after being left empty for years.

More troubling for residents and the remaining businesses is also the seemingly lack of a plan to attract fresh brands to the town centre following a devastating year.
