Vaccine priority list released

Public Health Wales has released its priority list for those who will be receiving the Covid-19 vaccine first in the Welshpool area.

Frontline medical and care staff are currently receiving the vaccine, but the area is readying itself for the widespread roll out to the general population.

As widely publicised, elderly residents of care homes are top, closely followed by those aged over 80.

You have to drop down to the sixth category before anyone under the age of 64 with underlying health risks are considered, and the current roll-out list stops at those aged 50 and over. No dates are given as to when the various categories will start receiving their jabs.

“When more vaccine becomes available in 2021, it will be offered to more groups of the population,” is all that Public Health Wales has confirmed about everyone else.

Meanwhile, Welshpool continues to record very low infection rates, however a spike has been recorded north of the town in the Llanfyllin area with 11 new cases. To the west of Montgomeryshire, the wave that hit Llanidloes appears to be subsiding, according to the latest Public Health Wales data.
