06/01/2021 @ 12:50

The Welshpool area continues to enjoy some of the lowest Covid-19 rates in Wales, according to the latest figures released today by Public Health Wales.

Over the past 24-hour period, only two positive cases have been reported for the town and its surrounding area which has suffered from several waves since the first case was confirmed back on March 11, last year.

Up until noon today, Welshpool has had 159 positive Covid-19 tests in total in the 10 months since the first one, up from the 158 reported yesterday.

The areas of Guilsfield & Four Crosses (92), Montgomery, Trewern & Berriew (72) and Llanfair Careinion & Caersws (119) have not recorded any new cases since yesterday’s figures, and only one has been added to Llanfyllin & Llanwddyn’s total (123).

Further afield, Newtown has gone up five today to 113, and Abermule, Churchstoke & Kerry is up one to 56 in total since March 11, 2020. Newtown South (70) and Machynlleth & Banwy (92) remain the same as yesterday.

Despite the low numbers of local cases, health official reiterate the national advice to stay home, protect the NHS and save lives, particularly as the new variant of Covid-19 can spread at a staggering pace.
