Testing unit returns as Welshpool suffers spike in cases

08/02/2021 @ 03:42

As Welshpool suffers one of its sharpest rises over the past week since the start of the pandemic, a Coronavirus Mobile Testing unit will be placed in Berriew Street Car Park from tomorrow.

Since last Monday, there have been 25 new positive cases reported in the town, with 220 now recorded since the first on March 11, last year. Last Monday there were 195 cases so it marks a worrying 13% rise.

This fourth wave follows three previous waves that hit at The Rhallt, Sidoli's and Leighton Arches Travellers Camp.

Powys Teaching Health Board confirmed that mobile testing is by appointment-only and there will be a drive-through service provided.

Residents can book a test either online at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test, by phone on 119 or 18001 119 for people with hearing or speech difficulties. This is also the way to request a home testing kit.

Up until last night, 33,000 people had been vaccinated with their first dose in Powys.
