‘Save our school’ the musical

Campaigners fighting to save Churchstoke’s primary school have released a song to highlight their plight.

Released over the weekend on parent Ali Clark’s Facebook page, the video ‘Save our School’ has been shared nearly 200 times and features the children performing their own version of The Greatest Showman song ‘This is Me’.

In a clear message from the children to Powys County Council, the performance includes the lines “We are more than just a school”, “You’re not scared of being mean” and “Please save our school, don’t shut us down”.

Churchstoke is one of several schools threatened with closure under Powys plans to streamline education by creating hub schools.

Campaigners say that Powys has used outdated figures for its report and point to the fact that the village is earmarked for housing developments in the coming years, a similar argument at Castle Caereinion which is also threatened with closure.

Both schools have also launched petitions which have already attracted hundreds of signatures.

The closure plans are in the consultation phase after being revealed earlier this month.
