Caravans appear on ‘closed’ car park

The town council car park that was chained off to stop shoppers and workers parking there for free has seen several caravans move in over the weekend.

The Maesydre Car Park was at the centre of a row after chaotic scenes were witnessed last week, when parents returned to the sports fields for their children’s football and rugby training.

The Town Council took action after the location became busier throughout lockdown, but it faced an angry backlash from the parents last week.

However, over the weekend caravans accompanied by cars on foreign number plates moved onto the site.

The Town Council is investigating having informed the police, and a spokesperson at Powys County Council said that “staff from our housing service will visit to carry out a welfare assessment”, however they will not take further action “as they are not on county council land”.
