Pinewood plans withdrawn

Plans for the redevelopment of the Pinewood Tavern in the centre of Welshpool have been withdrawn.

Businessman Mike Harris had submitted plans for four self-contained flats at the pub along with new bar areas and was seeking listed building consent.

Negotiations have been taking place for over three years and the condition of the building alongside the Town Hall has been deteriorating.

MyWelshpool is aware that agents for the developer have been unable to agree listed building details with Powys County Council.

And the news has concerned Welshpool Town Council’s planning committee which has voted to write to Powys County Council expressing disappointment that the application has been withdrawn and asking what the decision means to the local economy and the building’s central location.

The Town Council planning committee had earlier expressed concerns to Powys County Council about the lack of disabled toilet facilities in the plans.
