An “eye-opener” for Montgomery residents

12/05/2021 @ 09:32

A local historian will tonight lift the lid on how the town of Montgomery came into being hundreds of years ago.

At the weekly Monty Hour, John Davies will present ‘Lifting the Vale: Montgomery's First 30 Years’ and Monty Hour host Gwil Stephenson said: “We’ll find out how it all started with someone's 16th birthday (sort of).

“John will talk about how The Rock of Montgomery got its castle and how the Town of Montgomery came into being to support the fortification's needs. I think this promises to be a real eye opener seeing Montgomery as a ‘new town’.”

To join the Monty Hour on Wednesdays, from 7-8pm, go to https://montgomery.cloud/hour where you will also find previous recordings and details of upcoming events.

At last week’s first Monty Hour of May, Phil Ranson presented about “Health and Enjoyment As We Age” by sharing his own experiences, from a position of not really being prepared for his retirement to how he progressed from there.

In particular, he developed a hobby of wine appreciation alongside improving his health using his expertise in spreadsheet development to control matters!

Phil also mentioned how the University of the 3rd Age proved to be valuable alongside the multitude of free courses at FutureLearn.
