There are no plans for a new railway station for Welshpool despite an astonishing claim made yesterday in a report that it was the “worst station on the Welsh network”.
Decades of little investment have seen the station become completely inadequate, according to the report sent to Transport for Wales (TfW) by the Shrewsbury Aberystwyth Rail Liaison Committee who made the call for a new station that would be easier to access and appropriate for the harsh Welsh weather.
Our story brought a wave of responses from readers with one declaring on Twitter that the station is “unbelievably grim”.
With rail use in Welshpool on the up prior to the pandemic and an hourly service to be introduced next year, the Committee said that the “case for a new station with much improved facilities is clear”.
However, TfW delivered a kick in the teeth for users this morning by telling us: “Currently, there are no plans for a new station in Welshpool.”
