Welshpool athlete Adele Nicoll smashed her personal best last night to prove that she has never been in better form.

The 24-year-old revealed to us this week that she is 2.5-stone lighter due to her pursuit of chasing a place in the Team GB bobsleigh team for the 2022 Winter Olympics as well as the Team Wales Athletics side for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

She opened the season at the weekend with a couple of decent throws to take the shot put win at the Battle of the Nations in Loughborough, but even Adele didn’t see last night’s monumental effort coming.

“I can’t believe it!” she said after throwing 16.49m at the Manchester Invitational. “It is five years since I set my previous personal best of 16.34m in 2016.

“I equalled it again in 2019 and last night I set a new life-time best of 16.49m, the second furthest throw ever, in history, by a Welsh athlete.”

The throw moves her to within 26cm of the Commonwealth Games qualification standard which she believes is well within her reach with more hard work to come.

Adele was stopping off at the Manchester event en route to a weekend training camp for the bobsleigh team in Newcastle.
