The Welshpool Poetry Festival will have a different feel to it this year, but nevertheless it goes ‘live’ this Saturday.
The event had been growing year-on-year prior to the pandemic, so organisers were keen to hold it in some shape and form this summer under the current restrictions.
The in-person event will be limited to 30 people per session at Church House on Church Bank, with tickets available through www.welshpoolpoetryfestival.org.uk.
“Poetry has been a comfort and outlet for many through the pandemic, helping us cope with the rollercoaster of emotions we’ve all been dealing with,” said Pat Edwards, Festival Curator.
“We had planned our usual three-day event but are just grateful for a day to be able to meet in person and share great contemporary poetry. Zoom events have helped us keep poetry going during lockdown but we’re all ready for some face to face, real life interaction now.”
The organisers have secured a quality line-up with Jonathan Edwards doing a Saturday Surgery, followed by Jonathan Davidson’s workshop. Then there’s a free one hour open mic with names being drawn from a hat.
The festival finishes with the Poetry Showcase featuring Jonathan Edwards and Emma Purshouse from 6.30pm-8pm.
The winners of the Open Competition will also be announced on the day by judge, Steve Pottinger.
