A Black Sunday on the roads

14/06/2021 @ 09:30

Emergency services were stretched again on Sunday as a pair of serious accidents were reported on roads leading in and out of Welshpool.

While the cause of the accidents are not known, readers that were out and about to make the most of the stunning weather used words like “morons and idiots” to describe some of the driving that was witnessed throughout the day.

Traffic Wales confirmed that the A458 between Foel and the Mallwyd roundabout was closed in the afternoon (pictured), but that accident was cleared by 6pm. It has seen been revealed that a motorcyclist from the Oswestry area was airlifted to Royal Stoke Hospital.

But just before that, readers informed us that the Pool Quay road was busy following a collision between a vehicle and a farm tractor and baler.

One reader commented that some of the driving she witnessed yesterday “scared the hell out of me when one car decided to over take me on a bend with a car coming the other way”.

The warm summer weather is set to continue through to Wednesday when a wet weather front is expected to bring rainfall through to the weekend.
