Plans have been submitted to provide five parking pitches for campervans and motorhomes at Llanerfyl.

The plans have been submitted by the Lewis family of Tan y Castell, Llanerfyl and is near the A458, which is the main artery for people travelling to the seaside from the Midlands.

Agent, Gwynfor Humphreys said the proposal included an access track and sewerage treatment plant.

“The applicants already operate three camping pods from Tan Y Castell, which provide high end holiday accommodation,” he said.

“Since developing the pods, the applicants have repeatedly been asked if RV (recreational vehicles) could be accommodated at the site. They do not offer this facility and have had to turn away custom.”

He explained that they wanted to develop five pitches that will measure around six metres in width and 10 metres length. They will be big enough for an RV and one more vehicle.

Mr Humphreys, said: “The applicants feel that there is a significant market for high end RV pitches. There are no similar facilities in the locality.

“Visitors to the site will help sustain the local economy through patronage of the local shops and public houses.

“Income generated by the development will also help sustain the applicant, with consequent multiplier effect through the local economy.”

At the moment the site is grassland, and the proposal includes maintaining the site to improve its biodiversity. Part of the proposals include putting four bird boxes up in surrounding trees.

Mr Humphreys added that the pitches will be used  “strictly for holiday occupancy only” and the Lewis’ would be happy to accept a condition on planning permission to officially restrict it to this.

Llanerfyl Community Council have discussed the proposals and and did not object to the plans. But they did raise concerns about the visual impact of the proposal.

The plans will be decided by Powys County Council at a future date.
