Businesses in Welshpool town centre were cleaning up this morning after being targeted by yobs who went on a 2am rampage with fire extinguishers.
Fire fighters joined the clean up operation as police launched an investigation, with Saturday morning shoppers looking on in disbelief as the details became known.
One Friday night reveller told us that he heard that the rampage started in the early hours when a fire extinguisher was set off outside the Angel, damaging the newly painted exterior to the pub in Berriew Street. Spice UK next door was also hit.
Workers in the Alan Price fruit and vegetable shop across the road were stock taking when the fire extinguisher was set off there before the rampage moved onto Broad Street.
This morning, staff in the Celtic Shop were greeted by stock coated in the yellow powder from a fire extinguisher which had been set off through the letterbox. Incredibly the shop was able to resume trading by 10am following a frantic clean up operation.
Police have urged the offenders to come forward rather than “wait for a knock on the door”.
“The fire extinguishers have been recovered and officers are in the process of speaking to witnesses and viewing CCTV footage,” said a police spokesperson: “Offenders may wish to come forward as opposed to waiting for the inevitable knock on the door.”
