Merc and Audi used as getaways

Police have revealed that Mercedes and Audi convertibles were used by four raiders who stole cash from a security van visiting Welshpool’s Tesco last night.

The blue Mercedes C180 coupe, registration number YE51 YBY is believed to have been the getaway car driven from Tesco and later found abandoned in the Buttington area, while the second vehicle - a black Audi S4 Quattro, registration number RY54 SZX – was also used.

A Mercedes was also used as a getaway vehicle from the Barclays Bank raid in Machynlleth last month which ended in a dramatic manhunt on the Rhallt. Police have since caught two of the three men allegedly involved but have not said whether they believe it is linked to the latest raid.

The police have reiterated in a statement tonight: “We are looking for four individuals in regards to the robbery. At this stage it is believed that no weapons were used.”

If you witnessed the robbery or saw these cars, contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, the independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555111.

The robbers stole cash from the security van visiting Tesco at around 11.46pm last night (Monday).
