Firefighters from across the border were needed last night to extinguish a blaze in woodland near Heritage Way, Llanymynech, involving a railway carriage.
It is not clear why it was there, but the 10 metres by 5 metres carriage was ablaze on arrival and firefighters used one hose reel jet to put it out.
Two fire engines had been scrambled from Oswestry Fire Station at 6.15pm, and the incident was declared over at 6.43pm despite spreading to surrounding hedgerows and trees.
