Ysgol Llanfyllin’s headteacher has praised the new school’s facilities that opened with the start of the new term this week.

A new Primary Phase and a Sixth Form Centre have welcomed pupils for the first time since Ysgol Llanfyllin became an all age school with the amalgamation of the town’s High School and Primary School last September.

The work to convert and upgrade different areas of the school was completed by a team of school staff and local contractors over the summer holidays.

The new self-contained Primary Phase consists of six newly refurbished classrooms, a dedicated Science room, Resource Centre, IT room and secure playground areas. The safeguarding of the Primary pupils has been enhanced with new perimeter fencing and secure gates and internal doors.

The new Sixth Form Centre includes six refurbished classrooms, three study areas, an ESGOL online teaching studio, a café with outdoor seating areas and a new common room.

Headteacher, Dewi Owen, said: “It has been a tremendously exciting start of term for us here in Llanfyllin. We now have a true all age school with pupils from age 4–16 all on one campus and our post 16 learners having their own college style 6th form centre.

"The new facilities are wonderful – a real tribute to the staff, students and contractors who have

designed and refurbished the different areas.

“The new physical arrangement of the school aligns perfectly with the new Curriculum for Wales. This will allow our tremendous staff the opportunity to ensure our learners are ambitious, enterprising ethical and healthy individuals who are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.”
