A Welshpool man has been co-opted onto the town council after saying he would “love to be involved with the people of Welshpool”.

Nick Howells was unanimously voted onto the council at last night’s full meeting, saying he was “born and bred in Welshpool as were several generations before me”.

Mr Howells said that he is approaching retirement at the end of the year and is looking forward to dedicating his time to town council issues.

Cllr Estelle Bleavas led the backing for his inclusion by saying: “Nick would be a great asset."

Mr Howells has enjoyed a long professional career working in the areas of environmental issues as well as health and safety and for the past 13 years he has worked for the National Trust as an Operational Risk Business Partner.
