Farewell HSBC

24/09/2021 @ 08:16

It’s another historic day for the wrong reasons as another high street bank turns its back on Welshpool and closes it doors.

HSBC announced earlier this year this it would closing its Welshpool branch, following in the footsteps of Natwest a few years ago to leave just Lloyds and Barclays behind from the big national brands.

MyWelshpool understands that all staff were offered alternative roles or voluntary redundancy, including working from the branch in Newtown where customers have been told to go for their banking needs.

When announcing the closure earlier this year, HSBC told us: “We know changes like this can affect people in different ways and are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

“Whilst more customers are choosing online, mobile and telephone banking, others still like speaking to an adviser in person. You can enjoy all the services you're used to at our other branches.

“Your account number and sort code will stay the same, so you don’t need to do anything differently.

“If you use our Safe Keeping service, you can still do so at The Cross, 1 Broad Street, Newtown, Powys, SY16 2LX.”

The big question now is what next for the building which has been a bank for decades, having been called Midland Bank prior to HSBC swallowing it up.
