The detective leading the inquiry into the murder of an 18-year-old Newtown teenager in Llanidloes has issued a fresh appeal for witnesses following the incident on Saturday morning.

A teenager, named locally as Lewis Clarke from Newtown, died in hospital after an attack in a flat in Plynlimon House in Longbridge Street in the town, according to police. He was flown to hospital in Shrewsbury by air ambulance but died there.

Dyfed-Powys Police said they have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he is in custody being questioned. They have appealed for witnesses to come forward. Police officers were called to the flat at 11.55am on Saturday after reports of an assault.

This afternoon DCI Shane Williams who is leading the investigation said: “Although we have made an arrest we are still keen to speak to anyone who has information that could help the investigation into the tragic death of this young person. We would especially like to speak to anyone who was in the flat yesterday morning.”
