Police get extra time to question murder suspect

Magistrates have today (Monday, 4 July 2011) granted police an extra 36 hours to question a 20-year-old man in relation to the murder of Newtown teenager Lewis Clarke.

Lewis died at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on Saturday evening following an incident in a flat at Plynlimon House, Longbridge Street, Llanidloes on Saturday morning. He had been airlifted to hospital after police were called to the property at 11.55am. The man arrested is from the Newtown area. The property remains cordoned off as inquiries continue.

DCI Shane Williams, who is leading the investigation, has issued another appeal for witnesses. He said police are keen to talk to anyone who might have been at the flat or seen anything to contact them on 101 or 01267 202020 (outside Powys) or confidentially telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Tributes have been paid by hundreds of people to Lewis on ther social network Facebook and tributes and flowers have been left outside The Lion public house in Newtown where he lived with his family.
