Powys surges ahead in booster rates

Powys has surged ahead of the rest of Wales in leading the percentage of the population that has received the third Covid-19 vaccination, known as the booster.

Powys Teaching Health Board spokesperson Adrian Osborne was gleaming last night in announcing on his personal Twitter account that Powys had now triple jabbed an incredible 35.7% of its population aged 18 or over.

That places us well ahead of second placed Hywel Da Health Board's 29.1% with the rest of Wales languishing mostly in the mid-20’s.

“It is such a busy time for our vaccination teams but stats like these make me so proud of #TeamPowys,” posted Mr Osborne before tagging a number of partner agencies to thank them for the team effort.

The booster programme has been stepped up this week following the emergence of a new strain of the virus which has spooked health authorities across the world.
