GCSE's: Wales catching up with our kids

24/08/2010 @ 12:00

Local GCSE students have once again proven to be brighter than the average Welsh kid, but the rest of Wales is catching up!
While today’s results have again seen a magnificent pass rate, the number of local students achieving A*-C grades has slipped to 69.1%; down more the 3% on last year. The Wales average for the same grades is up to 66.4%.
Nevertheless, the figures are impressive with the overall local pass rate of grades A*-G similar to last year's level at just over 99%, almost 1% higher than the all-Wales pass rate of a little over 98%.
These results maintain the high standards seen in previous years' performance and remain consistently above the all-Wales averages.
Councillor David Jones, portfolio holder for the Schools Service, and Councillor Kath Roberts-Jones, Chair of the People Scrutiny Committee for Powys, said in a joint statement from Powys County Council: “Our warm congratulations go to all pupils for achieving such excellent results which demonstrate their great commitment and hard work.  This is made possible by the support they receive from dedicated teaching staff in all our schools and also from their families.”
