Who’s that knocking on the spire?

Guilsfield Church is facing a bill of over £2,000 after a woodpecker tried to make a home in its spire!

Steeplejacks have been on site since water was seen leaking through to the clock chamber in February, and the damage was discovered.

“There was no nest thankfully but apparently woodpeckers are partial to cedar shingles!” a church spokesperson told us.

“We identified one hole but more were found as they climbed further up the steeple.”

The initial emergency bill is expected to be more than £2,000, and parishioners will be hoping that the woodpeckers will have found somewhere else to set up home.
