More Welshpool aid heads to Ukraine border

22/03/2022 @ 10:38

Thanks to the wonderful generosity of the Welshpool area, tonnes of crucial aid is making its way to the refugees flooding across the Ukraine border.

Staff within Speed Welshpool‘s haulage division are coordinating the collection of charitable aid at its Buttington Quarry depot, and the first lorry load is on the move to Howard Shipping, a freight forwarder in Wolverhampton.

Speed Welshpool will cover costs relating to customs clearance and the transportation of the goods.

George Edwards, managing director at Speed Welshpool, said: “We quickly realised how important it was to provide free logistical support.

“The support from local people and businesses has been fantastic – in all the years I’ve been here, nothing has moved the community quite as much as this has. We’ll continue with our appeal for as long as it’s needed.”

Within a few days of Speed Welshpool‘s appeal, members of the community and local businesses have donated enough essential items to fill an articulated lorry.

Speed Welshpool will deliver this first consignment to Howard Shipping this week and intend to plan more trips as the conflict continues.

To arrange a collection or delivery call Speed Welshpool on 01938 871000.

Speed Welshpool employs nearly 80 people, operates 32 HGVs, 34 trailers, and eight vans, a huge leap from five years ago when the business operated a fleet of just 10 HGVs.
