Work replacing the damaged culvert on the A458 at Spring Bank, Golfa is nearly complete and the road will reopen under traffic light control next Wednesday.
The news will be welcomed by motorists and businesses who have been affected by the closure since January 24th.
Lengthy diversions have caused traffic chaos with many ignoring designated diversion routes to take short cuts along minor and unclassified roads.
Powys County Councillor Graham Breeze today confirmed that Welsh Government Highways Agency had told him traffic lights would be in place from Wednesday, March 30th to allow barrier work to be completed.
“But the good news is that this work should be completed and the lights removed ahead of the Easter Holiday break,” he said.
“The announcement comes two months to the day that work began and the contractors are confident that the additional barrier work will be completed so that the lights can be removed before the holiday traffic hits.
“This will be a real bonus as it is well over two years since the first lights went up when the culvert damage was identified.”
