Looking like perfect weather for the 10k

26/03/2022 @ 11:00

The weather Gods look like they will be smiling on Welshpool in the morning with idyllic conditions forecasted for the inaugural 10k.

Around 800 runners from across the area and beyond will be setting off from the Town Hall at 9am to tackle a 10km route that will take them past the stunning Powis Castle before finishing back the same spot.

Organised by Adrenalin Sporting Events, this will be the third time of asking for the event debut after two years of Covid-19 cancellations.

“We can’t wait now,” said the lead organiser, Alan Lewis. “It has been a long time coming but we are looking forward to a fantastic day out for the town.”

With the weather looking favourable, runners and spectators are reminded to put their clocks forward an hour tonight to British Summer Time.

The race is scheduled to be started by Paralympic gold medallist Jim Roberts, who scored 24 tries in the wheelchair rugby final in Tokyo last year, with Wales international runner Andy Davies also set to take part.

As well as Broad Street being closed for the start and finish, there will be some disruption with Berriew Road also closed from 8.45am-9.20am and Red Lane closed from 8am-10.30am.

A team of around 50 volunteers will be on duty working as marshals and medical teams, while the event has attracted strong local support from SJ Roberts and Lowfield Timber Frames as headline sponsors. Control Techniques are supplying runners with a cool bottle and the podium teddy bears, while FIX Auto are supplying the clock car.
