Students design new town mural

Welshpool High School Year 7 students have designed a new mural for the town as part of Powys County Council's ‘Winter of Wellbeing’ programme.

Working in collaboration with Powysland Museum and Art Connection Powys, the pupils from 7ER have created a mural that will be displayed on the side of the museum.

The project started with a trip down the canal to learn about the local wildlife and to do some observational drawings for inspiration. The group then visited the museum to learn about local history and draw some of the artefacts.

Stage two was working with the artist to create stencils and learning how to use spray paints effectively, before working on the final design.

“If you are out and about in town, you will be able to see the final design on the canal side of the museum soon!” said a spokesperson from the school.
