Girlguiding bouncing back in Montgomery

28/04/2022 @ 09:56

The 1st Montgomery Rainbow, Brownie and Guide units are set to re-open tomorrow (Friday) with a free taster meeting for girls aged 4 to 14 who are interested in finding out more about joining the groups.

The first meetings are open to all girls in the Montgomery and surrounding areas, and will be at 3.30pm (Rainbows – ages 4 to 7 inclusive) and 4.45pm (Brownies – ages 7 to 10 inclusive) and 6.30pm (Guides – ages 10 to 14 inclusive), followed by weekly meetings every Friday except half term until July 8.

Thanks to a Covid-19 Recovery Fund Grant from Powys County Council, Girlguiding in Montgomery has been running their REVIVE 2022 Project, which has been busy recruiting new leaders and helpers, and preparing to re-open the three groups for the girls in the different age groups.

“Girls are now invited to join the fun and be part of Rainbows, Brownies or Guides in Montgomery, having a great time, making friends, gaining confidence and skills, and being part of our wonderful community,” said a spokesperson.

“Thanks to the Grant, all girls joining Guides, Brownies or Rainbows in 2022 will receive a free ‘welcome pack’ of a sling bag, handbook, badge book, neckerchief and woggle. Free uniform is available for low income families, thanks to Powys County Council.

REVIVE 2022 project leader Ruth Anton-Stephens said: “Bring your daughter – or daughters – along to a fantastic free meeting, and see if she would enjoy being a Guide, a Brownie or a Rainbow with us. We would love to see our three units full of girls having a fabulous fun time with us this summer, enjoying themselves, while picking up a few valuable life skills along the way.”

Any parents/carers interested in a place for one or more girls should email montyguiding@yahoo.com to reserve one of the 12 places for Rainbows, or 16 places for each of Brownies and Guides.
