‘Don’t be alarmed’ airport reassures residents

Welshpool residents are being reassured not to be alarmed if they see an enormous military transporter plane seemingly making missed landings at the town’s airport tomorrow (Wednesday).

The airport has issued a statement tonight to say that the Atlas A400 will be “carrying out steep approaches at Welshpool Airport tomorrow (Wednesday) between 10am-3pm”.

The four-engine plane is built by Airbus and was first introduced in 2013 with numerous air forces already deploying the tactical airlifter which is seen as a long-term replacement for ageing aircraft such as the C-130 Hercules.

In August 2021, a total of 25 A400Ms were deployed by Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Turkey and the UK to assist in the Kabul Airport evacuations.

It promises to be quite a spectacle so understandably the airport is hoping that it will be a brisk trade at the on-site café.

“Cafe will be open so pop down and watch,” they said.
