Welshpool town centre will be closed off to help the town celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend next month.
The organising committee for the town's annual 1940s weekend have announced a Jubilee Jamboree Street Party on Saturday, June 4, from 5pm-10pm in Broad Street and High Street.
The event will feature performances from the The Beached Boys (Beach Boys tribute), John Springate's Glam Rock Revue, Gary Gibson (Beatles tribute) and 60s band, Hi Heel Sneekers.
Revellers are invited to bring their own chairs and picnic, or food can be purchased from local food outlets. Admission is free, but collection buckets will be going around to raise money for the 1940s weekend taking place from September 23-25.
It promises to be quite a weekend for the town with the carnival taking place the following day.
“The 1940s weekend helps to keep the town centre alive and the jamboree event will add to this,” said a spokesperson. “But volunteers are wanted to help with stewarding of the event, hospitality and so on.”
The 1940s Committee also have Union flags and Welsh flags for sale, from small hand ones to larger versions for anyone looking for decorations for their own event, shop window or home. For more information call 07782166342.
