An initiative in Welshpool is aiming to turn certain items that mostly end up in landfill into money for a local charity.
The Montgomeryshire branch of U3A have a collection point in place at the COWSHACC, at the top end of Berriew Street Car Park, turning empty medicine blister packets into donations for Marie Curie.
Once collected, the empty blister packets are sent off to Terracycle, separated by polymer type and, if necessary, cleaned. The material is then extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products.
Marie Curie receives a donation of £1 for each kilo of empty medicine blister packets collected. Organisers say that any brand of empty medicine blister packets are accepted.
“By dropping them off at the box located in the entrance foyer, you are helping the planet and raising funds for a great cause at the same timer!” said a spokesperson.
